What am I supposed to believe
When society only aims to deceive?

We're all too fat
We're unbearably thin
But either way
The magazine wins.
And true love lives
Or does it die?
I'm not sure why
It's such a mystery
There's such a history
Of both. But I
Can tell you this
A single kiss
In the rain, hasn't
Quite happened yet.
But I sure can bet
I haven't gotten a
Broken heart either.
Move too fast
Or just go slow
And smell a rose
But then go party
And drink.
And you know
What I think?
Roses and breath
Don't mix.
Take the quick-fix
Pay by the hour
Get up in the morning
Take a shower
Go to work
And make a buck
With a register
Or hockey puck
Or a football
Which seems to be
Viewed much more importantly
Than music. What a shame,
We've only got ourselves to blame.
Or is it us? Is there
Someone out there,
Just waiting to jump out
And scare
Us to our senses?
But science objects
The dreamer's wish
With bold white coats
And petri dish.
But you never can tell
If it's just the floorboards
Or if there's a ghost in the hotel.
But who even cares?
The world moves on.
The people stay strong
While the earth slowly dies.
And the country sighs
For a better way,
A better day,
And we talk of dreams
And hopes and plans
For just a single paper fan
On a hot, humid night.
And we all fight.
And we all rant and rave
The stereotypes
Create the hype
That entertains us all.
The fall
From the airplane
Is just the same thrill
As an unexpected crash, so they say.
And the headlines
Read of tradgedies
But gradually
The mess we made
Will slowly fade

And put everything into focus.
And put away all the hocus pocus.

But what is focus, in this hectic place?
Tell me. Place a face,

To the name in which I cannot see.

Or just let it be.

And listen to everything you hear, my dear.

But I cannot join you, I fear.
